HELP!

I’m the type of person who always enjoys the completion of a project because I find satisfaction in seeing a finished product.  I do not, however, enjoy the actual process that leads me to the finished product.  My brain easily becomes overloaded when I look at an instruction manual.  This past week, I received a desk for my office.  I anticipated having a new desk, but I dreaded the process of assembling it.  With a new, found confidence, I opened the box and gave myself a pep talk.  I could build it, and I WAS GOING to do it!!!

After reading over the 31-step process, I slowly and tediously started step 1.  As a few hours rolled by and I finally made it to step 4, I decided that there must be a better way…I called in reinforcements.  Dialing extension 1-4, I pleaded my case to John Gerber.  Before long, he came over to help carrying a drill, a hammer, and a few other tools that I apparently needed. Within the day, we worked together to complete the desk project.  Without his help, there could still be a pile of wood, screws, knobs, and instructions lying in my office floor.  I swallowed my pride asking for his help.

Our lives consist of many things that we think can be handled on our own.  Once we dive in, we realize that the task is much bigger than we thought.  Like me, we easily become overloaded, but we have a choice to make.  We can either give up and quit or we can ask for help.  I am glad that I have a father-in-law that was willing to give up an afternoon to lend a hand (and a drill and a hammer) in order to finish my project.  The thing I am learning more and more in this life is that it is ok to ask people for help.  I don’t have to do everything on my own.  Once I finally realize that I’m willing to ask, there is almost always someone who is willing to lend a hand.  I am thankful we have a church full or men and women who are willing to help when a need arises.

Have a great week!
